All of the collection has been donated from different places – including individuals, businesses, families and the local council. The variety of material reflects the mixture of sources and includes special exhibits relating to Newhaven’s Lifeboat Service, the Parker Pen Company and the Cross-Channel Ferries.
We have digitalised and indexed a range of our material for ease of access and reference. Our full collection of over 20,000 photographs has been scanned and we provide a service to search and print out images for a small fee.
The Museum provides an informal snapshot into the world of private and public collections allowing the visitor to explore and find hidden gems and information. Society members volunteer their time to staff the museum sharing their knowledge of the collection and Newhaven’s local history with museum visitors.
We welcome those wanting to explore their family heritage or just wishing to find out more about the town’s rich history. We also welcome school or other group visits by prior arrangement with the Curator or Secretary.
